Jacksonville Community Wildfire Protection Project

The Jacksonville Community Wildfire Protection Project is a strategic, ecologically-minded project collaboration to help reduce the threat of wildfire within selected areas of Jacksonville, Oregon and specific areas adjacent to the city.

The City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Woodlands group and the local FireWise communities have joined forces with Lomakatsi and other members of the Rogue Forest Partners, including the local OSU Extension and Southern Oregon Forest Restoration Collaborative. Together they have raised over $1.5 million to assist landowners and the City of Jacksonville in reducing wildfire risk through ecological thinning and prescribed fire. Using this funding, landowners in the project area may be eligible for ecological fuels reduction on their property at no cost to them. All treatments are completely voluntary.

Project Update – Please pardon our noise! Ecological thinning to begin April 2023

Ecological fuels reduction treatments will begin around Jacksonville the first week of April 2023 (see Phase One map below). Operations will continue off and on over the next few months.

Jacksonville residents will hear chainsaw noise, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we implement this important, collaborative work to reduce wildfire risk to the community and ecosystem.

Lomakatsi Restoration Project will be overseeing local forestry services providers who will be conducting the ecological thinning on private land around town. Our project inspection team will closely monitor operations to ensure quality outcomes. Over the past few months, we’ve been working with interested landowners in the project area and has a growing number of participating properties. Our technical forestry team visits each property to discuss restoration treatments with the landowner, then develops an ecologically-based fuels reduction prescription unique to the property, which incorporates the owner’s interests.
