Andres Marquez, Operations Support Manager
As Lomakatsi’s Operations Support Manager, Andres provides bilingual support to our restoration workforce crews and coordinates their project assignments. He is especially involved with our controlled burn and wildland fire fighting crews, as well as ecological restoration activities. In addition to day-to-day operations coordination, Andres supports project monitoring, budgeting, and crew safety initiatives. His smile and upbeat attitude are contagious, so say hello next time you see him!
Since getting his start in firefighting in the Rogue Valley in 2013, Andres has gained experience on fire fighting crews working in diverse ecosystems from New Mexico to Washington. He completed the Rogue Community College Fire Science Program and served as an EMT intern for Ashland Fire and Rescue and Jackson County District 3, where he learned the ropes of structural firefighting, rescue, and medical response. In 2017 and 2018 Andres worked with med-evac helicopters from the National Guard, providing emergency care for injured wildland firefighters. He is currently pursuing further education in the fields of firefighting and medical response.
Andres was born in Quito, the capitol of Ecuador, where he lived for 22 years before moving to Ashland in 2013. He is an accomplished martial artist and instructor of Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art hidden in dance and rich in culture. In addition to his work at Lomakatsi, Andres is a professional landscape photographer and drone videographer. Andres speaks three languages—his native Spanish plus English and Portuguese—and is currently learning French.
