Overview
Lomakatsi Ecological Services Inc., is seeking a qualified Engine Boss (ENGB) to join our growing team and operate our Type 6 Wildland Engine. A primary responsibility is supporting our 2023-24 US Forest Service Region 6 Water Handling (R6) wildland fire suppression contract. In addition to being an ENGB on the IBPA contract, this could be an opportunity for year-round employment to fill a key position on our ecological forestry crew and work with a team of fire managers on prescribed fire operations as part of long-term projects on federal, private and tribal lands. LES could hire this individual prior to fire season with technical and labor duties, as assigned. Duties may include providing water resources for prescribed burning and riparian plantings, as well as offering technical forestry support for ecosystem restoration and fuels reduction project work.
Date of hire to be determined through interview process, with estimated date of hire in May 2023, and preferably no later than the start of fire season (June).

Job Duty Summary
During wildfire incident, perform job duties as outlined by NWCG and PMS 310-1

Duties include preparing for incidents by learning contract operating procedures, development of personnel, and overseeing readiness of Engine

Compensation
During Incident: Daily rate ($350-$450 range), commensurate with experience

Overview
Lomakatsi Restoration Project, a non-profit forest and watershed restoration organization based in Ashland, OR, seeks a full-time Staff Accountant to join our growing team. This position will be an integral part of the accounting and finance team, supporting Lomakatsi’s work implementing landscape-scale forest and watershed stewardship initiatives across Oregon and Northern California.
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting essential payroll administration and fundamental accounting functions. This position reports to the Senior Accountant, with duties and tasks prioritized by Lomakatsi’s finance and executive management team. Collectively, this team is responsible for administering all of the organization’s financial needs, including assisting with the month-end close, tracking diverse funding sources, budgeting monitoring, payroll, compliance, and advancing best financial practices.

Accounting Duties and Responsibilities
Monthly reconciliation processes, which may include bank account, credit card, and gas credits
Create and maintain financial transaction records
Prepare and enter journal entries as needed
Assist with Month End close
Support Lomakatsi’s finance and accounting leadership in maintaining the general ledger
Maintain electronic and paper documentation, including filing and scanning
Perform other finance, HR, and administrative duties as assigned
Payroll Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll for over 50 employees, including reviewing and ensuring accuracy of approved timesheets and tracking all payroll deductions including payroll tax deposits
Assist in coordination between payroll, HR, and department supervisors to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data, including health and retirement benefits, vacation, and sick time
Support maintenance of W-4s, I-9s, and other employee and contractor forms
Prepare and submit certified payroll reports, including Oregon WH 141
Generate quarterly payroll filings
Prepare annual W2s
Support compliance reporting including Oregon Workers’ Compensation Payroll Reporting and payment
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred), Finance, Business Administration, or a related field — or demonstrated equivalent work experience
At least 5 years of accounting experience relevant to stated job responsibilities
Strong proficiency in QuickBooks and experience using payroll software systems, with ability to quickly learn new software
Understanding of GAAP, business contracts, internal control procedures, and other outside reporting principles and legal regulations
Excellent MS Office Suite skills, especially Excel, Word and Outlook
Experience with job costing and non-profit accounting are a plus
Ability to execute responsibilities in a highly accurate and timely manner

Restoration Forester

Overview
Lomakatsi Restoration Project, a non-profit organization based in Ashland, Oregon, seeks a qualified forestry professional with demonstrated experience in restoration forestry and project management to join our growing team for full-time employment. This position will have the opportunity to work across the diverse ecosystems of Oregon and Northern California, in partnership with Tribes, federal, state and municipal agencies, and other nongovernmental organizations to design and implement forest restoration projects as part of large-scale stewardship initiatives.
Applicants should be skilled and experienced in performing a variety of essential forestry tasks including using GIS to prepare project maps, conducting forest inventories, and managing and analyzing data. Applicants should also be experienced in developing forest stewardship and conservation activity plans in collaboration with diverse partners, and in overseeing implementation of ecologically based restoration prescriptions on-the-ground.
The majority of this individual’s work will be done in the field, working independently or with other technical forestry personnel and specialists. The remaining office time will be dedicated to producing maps, plans and reports. This position is based out of Ashland, Oregon, with travel (sometimes overnight) required as needed to Lomakatsi’s project sites across Oregon andNorthern California.

The Stewardship Operations Forester will assist in the management of ecological forestry operations—many of which include commercial thinning and the utilization of timber as a by-product of forest restoration and fuel hazard mitigation. Applicants should be skilled and experienced in preforming a variety of essential forestry tasks including timber cruising; timber harvest inspections and reporting; layout and marking of restoration-focused commercial thinning projects; collecting and managing forest inventory data; using GIS to prepare maps; and writing and interpreting ecologically focused silvicultural plans.
Applicants should also be experienced in overseeing regulatory and NEPA compliance, and commercial restoration-based timber harvest sub-contractor accountability. Restoration Forestry Worker – Sawyer: Forestry and Fuels
Outside of wildland fire season, Lomakatsi crew members conduct forest restoration work
