Last week Lomakatsi’s 20-person Type 2 Hand Crew was recognized by the Incident Management Team on the Homestead Complex (located on the Umpqua National Forest) for the Crew’s efforts on the Horse Heaven Creek Fire. The Crew impressively completed a section of handline in terrain with around a 1,000-foot elevation change, which had proven a challenging task over the past few weeks due to the complexity of the assignment.

Lomakatsi’s Hand Crew took on the task, accompanied by a dedicated Safety Officer, completed the handline, and then plumbed hose down the section of line to secure the fire’s edge. Fire Operations Manager Sean Voorhes described the work and recognition the crew received as “their biggest achievement as an organized Type 2 crew in the history of Lomakatsi.” Way to go!
The Engine Crew returned to the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District for their fifth tour of the season yesterday, patrolling and maintaining readiness for any new fire starts on the U.S. Forest Service- Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
We’re so proud of all our wildland fire responders! Thank you for your hard work and dedication!
