Last Sunday, March 16, Lomakatsi was recognized at the beginning of Senator Jeff Merkley’s Town Hall in Ashland, Oregon for “dedication to protecting Oregon’s forests through hazardous fuel mitigation and keeping communities safe in Oregon for many years.”
The Senator presented Lomakatsi with a flag flown over the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., which was received by our Finance Director Damaris Anderson, a former Staff Seargent in the Marine Corps and proud veteran, and our Lead Restoration Crew Manager of 20 years, Braulio Maya Cortes, who is also on the Lomakatsi Board of Directors. They were supported by Lomakatsi Board President Will Sears and joined by many Native American, Latin American, and Euro American representatives from Lomakatsi’s workforce, the people on the ground who do this important work rain or shine in service to our forests and communities.
Lomakatsi Communications Director Tom Greco shared brief comments, thanking the Senator for his long-standing support for collaborative forest restoration and for meeting with our Executive Director Marko Bey and leadership team in Washington, D.C. last week—where we met with congressional representatives from across the aisle and federal department and agency leadership to discuss funding for wildfire mitigation and forest health treatments.
We thank Senator Merkley and his team for this honor.
