Lomakatsi was honored to partner with the Northern Paiute Gidutikad Band of the Fort Bidwell Indian Tribe for a community gathering at the Tribe’s Community Center, featuring presentations and dialogue centered on the growing, community driven collaborative initiative: Looking After the Land, Looking After the People: Advancing First Food Sovereignty and Ecosystem Resilience.
The gathering brought together tribal elders, elected leaders, ecocultural practitioners, youth, researchers, restoration NGOs, and community partners to discuss the future of keystone root crops and other First Foods, along with the long‑term stewardship of these essential subsistence resources through cultural fire and land‑tending practices.

Through the Inter-Tribal Ecosystem Restoration Partnership, coordinated by Lomakatsi in collaboration with regional Tribal Nations, participants engaged in both technical and heartfelt conversations about data sovereignty, ethical considerations in anthropological and archaeological research, and pathways for co-stewardship across Gidutikad Band ancestral lands.
It was a meaningful and energizing evening as the community prepared for the next day’s events as part of the 4th Annual Surprise Valley Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge (ITEK) Field Day.
