These training modules focus on topics that workers on our project advisory committee identified as top priorities. Each module is self-containing, consisting of a lesson plan, goals and objectives, instructions for the trainer, group discussion activities, and information about dealing with specific occupational hazards. Each module is designed for a workshop of about two hours.

The Four Elements of Safety: Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls While Working in the Woods

By the end of this session, participants will know what they can do to lower their risk of slipping, tripping or falling at work. They will know:

  •  The importance of boots with good traction
  • How to safely climb up, down or over things
  • To not engage in unsafe acts
  • To continuously pay attention to footing and conditions on the ground
  • The importance of being physically prepared

Protect Yourself from Pesticides


Protejase de los Pesticidas

By the end of this session, participants will know what they can do to lower their risk of exposure to pesticides at work, and their rights under the Worker Protection Standard,
implemented by the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They will know:

  • how to recognize risk factors for exposure to pesticides
  • the different levels of toxicity of pesticides
  • how to recognize symptoms of exposure to pesticides
  • best practices in avoiding the risk factors to prevent exposure to pesticides
  • workers’ right to file a complaint without retaliation

Health & Safety on the Job: Your Rights & Responsibilities

By the end of this session, participants will know what can hurt them or make them sick while working outdoors. They will:

  • Understand that the hazards forest workers face on the job can be addressed
  • Be able to name at least 3 protective rights they have, regardless of immigration
    status
  • Be able to describe at least 2 things that workers can do to improve their working
    conditions, even if there are no specific legal protections to use
  • Demonstrate an ability to speak up about problems at work
