Rob Strahan, PhD

Restoration Ecologist

As Restoration Ecologist, Rob collaborates with Lomakatsi’s technical staff and executive team to manage our monitoring program and integrate current restoration science into project design and implementation, technical reporting and funding acquisition. He works closely with Lomakatsi’s project partners to plan and manage ecological monitoring efforts used to evaluate project success and improve restoration practices. Additionally, Rob develops silvicultural, vegetation management, and ecological forestry prescriptions across the wide variety of ecosystems where Lomakatsi works.

Rob grew up in New Mexico and received his BS in Wildlife Science and MS in Range Science from New Mexico State University. Rob moved to Flagstaff, AZ in 2009 where he completed his PhD in Forest Science at Northern Arizona University in December 2013. After a post-doctoral appointment with the Ecological Restoration Institute, Rob served as Restoration and Monitoring Program Manager at the New Mexico Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute in Las Vegas, NM. Rob moved to Southwest Oregon in 2017, where he held a joint appointment as Adjunct Professor in the Biology and Environmental Science and Policy departments at Southern Oregon University.

Rob has conducted both basic and applied research in the forest and rangeland ecosystems across the southwestern U.S. Some of his past research experience focused on the restoration of forest plant communities, understanding long-term consequences of grazing and fire, and understanding the natural range of variability of both forest overstory and understory plant communities.
