The Tribal Youth Ecological Forestry Training Program crew took shovels and drip torches out to Buckhorn Springs yesterday to complete on-site training, light and manage slash piles, and continue pursuing our goal to initiate planned prescribed fire operations during seasonal burn windows.
Nearly halfway through this 18-week program, the now fully certified crew received a controlled pile burn training from Lomakatsi’s Fire Operations Manager Sean Voorhes, and helped ignite 15 acres of piles—their first time putting prescribed fire on the ground with Lomakatsi—followed by an additional 7 acres today.
