Dakota Burgdorf
Tribal Ecological Forestry Trainee II
As Tribal Ecological Forestry Trainee II, Dakota restores land and ecosystem health through ecological thinning, hand piling, controlled burning, and stewardship that helps return the land to the natural conditions sustained by aboriginal people before Euro-American settlement. He is an enrolled member of The Klamath Tribes and descendant of the Klamath and Modoc peoples.
Dakota joined the Lomakatsi team in May 2021 and earned certifications as a Firefighter Type 2, including Wildland Fire Chainsaw operation, First Aid/CPR, and Wildland Fire Incident Qualifications as standardized by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group. He is also a certified Cultural Monitor. Dakota worked on Lomakatsi Ecological Service’s Wildland Fire Response team summer 2021 and 2022. He provides peer support, mentorship, and motivation as a seasoned member of the tribal ecological forestry crew. His favorite part of the job is ensuring the team has positive workdays.
