Sophie Perfetto
Social Ecology Associate
As Social Ecology Associate, Sophie supports Lomakatsi’s Tribal Partnerships Program, the Inter-Tribal Ecosystem Restoration Partnership, and other collaborative social engagement initiatives and partnerships across the region. She brings a strong social science and cultural ecology perspective, helping to integrate anthropological insight, cultural landscape understanding, Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and community-based perspectives into program development, partnership building, implementation, and evaluation to strengthen tribally led stewardship and landscape-scale restoration efforts.
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Sophie joined the Lomakatsi team in September 2026 with a background in education and anthropology. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Carleton College with minors in Creative Writing and Gender, Women’s and Sexuality Studies, and a master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Denver, where she focused on collaborative stewardship of culturally significant species among governments, communities, and conservation organizations.
Sophie is motivated to support lasting conservation outcomes built through relationships, and connecting with people is her favorite part of the job. In her role, Sophie supports initiatives in which cultural knowledge, community priorities, and ecological restoration come together to foster resilient landscapes and thriving communities.
Outside of work, Sophie enjoys reading, hiking, spending time with friends and her dog, Echo, and being in and around water.
